2012 Mayer Center Symposium: Festivals and Daily Life in the Arts of Colonial Latin America

The papers presented at the 2012 Mayer Center symposium will address the spectrum of daily life in colonial Latin America - from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Topics include the quotidian details of women's clothing and household furniture, local festivals and Indian dances, as well as grand pageants to celebrate the arrival of new viceroys and to mourn the deaths of Spanish royalty. Specialists in the arts and history of Latin America will travel from Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela and the United States to present recent research.

 

The symposium will begin at 9:30AM on Friday, November 2nd and run throughout the day. Friday lectures will conclude at 5pm followed by a cocktail party. Saturday lectures will begin at 9:30AM and conclude by 12:30PM.
