Please note that doors will open at 6 pm, to allow attendees to view At the Mirror: Reflections of Japan in 20th Century Prints in the Martin & McCormick Gallery. The lecture will begin at 7 pm.

Throughout his career, Japanese artist Masami Teraoka has acknowledged the simultaneous fusion and clashing of East and West. He combines fantasy and humor with darker social issues in paintings and prints that are informed by history, art history, politics, sexuality, the AIDS epidemic, and the globalization of American franchises, such as Baskin-Robbins and McDonald’s.

This lecture is co-sponsored by the William Sharpless Jackson Jr. Endowment for the Curator’s Circle.

Thanks to the Asian Art Association, enjoy the chance to view At the Mirror: Reflections of Japan in 20th Century Prints , an exhibition of contemporary Japanese works on paper in which one of Teraoka's prints is included, before the lecture begins and during a post-lecture reception. Gallery viewing: 6 - 9 pm, Martin and McCormick Gallery. Lecture: 7 - 8 pm, Sharp Auditorium. Reception: 8 - 9 pm, Second Level Atrium.
