Set in the West: Telling Tales in Art and Film

The Petrie Institute of Western American Art presents their eleventh annual symposium, Set in the West: Telling Tales in Art and Film. Led by art historians and film scholars, this full day symposium explores how artists and filmmakers influenced each other, and the tools they used, to create Westerns as we know them today. Four presentations will discuss early film technology, influential artists’ works, and the Western films of famous directors John Ford and Sergio Leone. Set in the West prepares audiences for Denver Art Museum's upcoming exhibition The Western: An Epic in Art and Film, opening May 21, 2017.
