Creativity does not happen in a vacuum: artists are influenced by the places, politics, and people around them. Inspired by Charlie and Nancy Russell’s artistic partnership, a theme featured in the Denver Art Museum’s current exhibition "The Russells in Denver, 1921," the Petrie Institute of Western American Art’s 18th annual symposium highlights examples of dynamic personal and community relationships that enabled and sustained the creation of great western American art.
