Virtual Lecture: Design Responds to a Changing World

Design is one of our most powerful tools. The ingenuity, resourcefulness, and generosity of designers and their collaborators during the Covid-19 crisis has produced innovations that are helping to protect us from the pandemic, to improve its treatment, and to prepare for the radical changes it will introduce to our lives in the future.

Join Darrin Alfred, curator of architecture and design at DAM, as he charts design's response to the Covid-19 crisis. From hands-free door openers and classrooms designed for socially distanced learning to a quick and easy face shield for healthcare workers and ventilators made from car parts, Alfred explores how contemporary design can play a role in our new reality.

This lecture will be presented virtually on Zoom. More information will be sent via email after registration.

Senga Nengudi is one of the most celebrated artists working in installation and performance art since the 1960s. Often incorporating found materials, Nengudi's work explores notions of race, ethnicity, culture, and gender identity. Based in Colorado Spring for more than 30 years, Nengudi creates video and music expanding upon her conceptual work by incorporating ritual dance and further engaging the cross-cultural dialogue central to her practice.
