Creative Classes: Art Into Words

Many writers struggle with the daunting task of staring at a blank page and not knowing how to begin. In this workshop, we will replace the blank page with works of art from the Denver Art Museum, and use art in different mediums to inspire freewriting, brainstorming, and creative flow. Using art to look at writing elements such as setting, character, story, dialogue, and description, writers in this workshop will be inspired to get “unstuck,” and let the creative juices flow! Masks strongly encouraged.

Materials: Students will purchase their own materials for this course. Materials will cost $0-$10. A Materials List will be provided upon registration.

Educator: Jenny Stafford, www.jennystafford.net

The Greatest Unknown American Painter: Dennis Miller Bunker and his Wild Asters

Near the end of his short life, Dennis Miller Bunker (1861-90) made a remarkable series of paintings of a meadow in Medfield, Massachusetts. The greatest of these paintings, Wild Asters, is on view in Whistler to Cassatt: American Painters in France. Join distinguished art historian Alexander Nemerov for an in-depth look at this painting, and thoughts on a question that matters to us all: namely, what makes a painting great?
