July 18-22, 9 AM - 3:30 PM

Experiment with all kinds of media, wood, paint, paper, dough, beads, and more! Take home art inspired by the many genres and materials seen in the museum's varying collections, like Abstract, Architecture, Representational, 2-D and 3-D.

One-day workshop.

Pulling inspiration from the DAM's collections, we'll first be creating collages interpreting artworks by form and color as 2-D maps. The next step will be using wire, middollino and yarn to create flexible armatures as bases to add our fresh materials to. Third, we'll be using our collages as a map of placement, form and line in our finished floral designs.

This will be a very freeform knowledge sharing experience, suitable to beginners or advanced floral designers. The approach is very out of the box, breaking down an existing artwork into shapes and colors, then recreating a mixed media 3-d version with fresh floral elements. We'll go over flower care and handling, mechanics and various applicable philosophies of floral design.

Materials: All floral materials will be provided by the educator and are reflected in the $75 materials fee associated with this class. Students should bring clippers, scissors, and old magazines.

Once, long ago...This week we’ll read some stories and use them as inspiration to explore the museum galleries and create beautiful works of art using various mediums, materials and, of course, our imaginations!

Originally from Afghanistan, Hangama Amiri works primarily in textile to create images that reflect her own observations of displacement, diaspora culture, and women in Afghanistan and the region. She holds an MFA from Yale University and currently works in New Haven, CT, USA. A new body of work by Amiri is currently on view at the David B. Smith gallery through June 18th.

For the first time in Denver, Hangama Amiri will discuss her artistic practice that explores how everyday objects and spaces are imbued with cultural memories and histories. This will be followed by a presentation from Karuna Srikureja, Interpretive Specialist of Asia, Africa, and Oceania at the Denver Art Museum, who will discuss the thematic ties between some objects in the museum’s collection in relation to Amiri’s artworks. Professor Azita Ranjbar, Associate Professor of Women & Gender Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder, will touch upon women’s rights in the Middle East.

The program will conclude in a Q&A with Hangama Amiri and panelists, Karuna Srikureja and Professor Ranjbar, led by Arianna Flory, Curatorial Assistant at Large at the Denver Art Museum.

From clay vessels to abstract sculptures, we have it all in the museum! We¬l take what we see in the gallery and apply it to our art in the workshop. At the end of the week, you'll have all kinds of sculptures to see with family and friends!

The museum's Sensory Friendly Morning program is a chance for kids with neurodiversity or sensory processing disorders and their families to visit the museum in a safe and fun way. The museum will open early, dim the lights, and provide tools to aid and guide a sensory friendly experience for the whole family.

This Sensory-Friendly Morning will feature the newly reopened Martin Building's galleries, Learning and Engagement Center, Creative Hub, Sensory Garden, art making activities, and McNicholas Miniature Therapy Horses.

Explore the museum collections with your artist's eyes, and develop your own signature style of seeing and creating art. Campers will use sketchbooks, learn the method behind various drawing and sketching techniques, and see where their doodles take them.

In this class for our youngest museum friends, we’ll explore all the basics of art! We’ll learn all about textures, colors, and shapes through games, stories, and of course art projects!

The pathbreaking artist Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986) is revered for her iconic paintings of flowers, skyscrapers, animal skulls, and Southwestern landscapes. Her photographic work, however, has not been explored in depth until now. This exhibition is the first major investigation of O’Keeffe’s photography and traces the artist’s thirty-year exploration of the medium.

Join exhibition curator Lisa Volpe as she will discuss O’Keeffe’s relationship to photography, her personal use of the medium, the research that brought these images to light, and the discoveries still waiting to be made.

Uncorked, the Denver Art Museum's spring fundraiser celebrating art, wine and community, marks its 20th year on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Proceeds will benefit the museum's acquisitions endowment.
