Sustainable Culture: Tradition and Modernity in Contemporary African Textiles and Fashion Design

Join us for a panel discussion that will explore how contemporary African fashion designers marry tradition with modernity and innovation while preserving traditional cultures, craftsmanship, and knowledge of African textiles.

Featuring designers Ann McCreath of Kiko Romeo (Kenya), Shamyra Moodley of Laanirani (South Africa), Mahlet Afework of Mafi Mafi (Ethiopia), and Adèle Dejak (Kenya).

Moderated by Ellamaria Foley-Ray, professor in the department of Africana Studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Presented by the Avenir Institute of Textile Arts and Fashion.
