1-Day Workshop | Poetry: What's in a Name?

Saturday, February 18, 2023 - 10:00 AM

Running Time: 4 hours

This class is a deep dive into the self: exploring the different names we use to label ourselves and others. Which of these names brings us wholeness? Which cause division? There is no hard line for this.

Through the poetry-centered writing class, we learn the vulnerability necessary to be honest on the page in a way that will make our work irresistible to a world that is craving authenticity and connection.

What to Expect: To start class, we will discuss aspects of identity: how the world perceives us, how we define ourselves and how these intersect. Following our discussion, we will visit a DAM exhibit to discuss how identity is reflected in the art. For the second half of our class, we will take to the workshop space to create poems that express emerging parts of our own identity. Then, get ready for a little poetry reading of our own!

Materials: All materials are included in class pricing and will be provided to students at the beginning of class.
