Trappers Dancing around the Campfire

Tuesday, October 27, 2020 - 6:00 PM

Running Time: 1 hour

October is National LGBTQ History Month! In  Trappers Dancing around the Camp Fire , (now a lost vignette), author, filmmaker, playwright and historian Gregory Hinton posits examples of LGBTQ hidden histories, including selected works by American painter Alfred Jacob Miller (1810-1874).

Commissioned in 1837 to travel to the annual fur trader s rendezvous in Horse Creek, Miller is thought to be the first American artist to produce  on-site  watercolor and ink sketches he later incorporated into finished watercolors and oils.

A Colorado son, Gregory Hinton is the creator of Out West, since 2009 a national museum program series offering lectures, plays and gallery exhibitions dedicated to shining a light on the history and culture of the LGBTQ community in the American West.
