Logan Lecture: Jordan Casteel

Contemporary Alliance is pleased to offer the opportunity to meet Jordan Casteel before her exhibition opens at the Denver Art Museum. Jordan Casteel: Returning the Gaze brings together nearly thirty paintings made between 2013 and 2018 by Casteel, including examples from Brothers, Visible Man, Nights in Harlem, and her Subway series. By transforming her photographs into larger-than-life portraits with subtle shifts in light, bold colors, and gestural brushwork, she reveals individuals and atmospheres that often go unnoticed. Casteel will be talking about the exhibition that opens February 2, 2019.

A reception will follow at the ART, a hotel.

The Logan Lecture series is sponsored by Vicki and Kent Logan in affiliation with Contemporary Alliance, a DAM support group.

*Please note that this lecture is sold out. If you'd like to be added to the waiting list please call 720-913-0130.

Logan Lecture: Tenzing Rigdol

Artist, activist, and poet, Tenzing Rigdol, will discuss his upcoming exhibition at the Emmanuel Gallery with curator Sarah Magnatta.

Rigdol was trained in several traditional Tibetan arts, including thangka painting, in India and Nepal.  He moved to the United States and graduated from the College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado, Denver, in 2005.  His mastery over a wide range of materials is evident in his paintings, digital works, photographs, and a site-specific installation of Tibetan soil brought to India.  Rigdol was the first contemporary Tibetan artist to have work collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Rigdol's large series of buddhas will be the centerpiece of Rigdol's first solo exhibition in the United States, opening March 21 on the campus of University of Colorado at Denver.

A reception will follow at the ART, a hotel.

The Logan Lecture series is sponsored by Vicki and Kent Logan in affiliation with Contemporary Alliance, a DAM support group.

Looking at British Art

From lustrous satin fabrics and lace collars to theatrical storytelling and scenes of everyday life, the paintings in Treasures of British Art are a feast for the eyes and imagination. Using the exhibition as a springboard, teaching specialist Molly Medakovich will shed light on the broad context of the British art world from the 1500s through the 1800s and explore multiple "looking tools" for savoring the works on view.
