We all know we can t touch the art in the museum but how many times have you wanted to? Students will explore the museum looking for the pieces that beg to be touched, and then explore how the materials in the art feel, smell, and sound. We will explore the galleries and then make art of our own using these materials

Ana Teresa Fernández explores the politics of intermingling identities and the ways it shapes culture and social rhetoric through painting, performance, and video. Her work illuminates the psychological and physical barriers that define gender, race, and class in Western society and the global south. Fernández s multi-media project Erasure is featured in Mi Tierra: Contemporary Artists Explore Place.

Logan Lecture: Mark Bradford

MARK BRADFORD

Mark Bradford compares his studio process with that of Clyfford Still:  What caught my eye was the insistence of his paintings. His surfaces were more raw and immediate than other abstract expressionist paintings.  Representing the U.S. in the 2017 Venice Biennale, Bradford joins us for the 100th Logan lecture where he will speak about the exhibition Shade: Clyfford Still / Mark Bradford. The conversation will be led by DAM Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, Rebecca Hart, and Clyfford Still Museum Director, Dean Sobel. The painting Realness (at left) is a significant work included in the exhibition.

Move Closer: Ways of Looking at Art

Have you ever wondered why you like some works of art, while others don’t grab you in quite the same way? In this two-part lecture course, we’ll explore ways of looking at art and how to talk about what it is that moves us, intrigues us and draws us in. With teaching specialist Molly Medakovich, participants will consider the fundamental components of looking and talking about art, and discover ways of connecting more deeply with any artwork.

Saving Seymour

Saving Seymour (ages 7-8)

Seymour has been taken prisoner by thieves that are intent on stealing the past. He can only be freed if objects from the past are discovered and recreated. Seymour hid a document that holds the secrets of the past and contains hints of the objects to be found. Campers must find the document, travel to exotic lands in search of the objects, and recreate them to save Seymour.
